This self-instructional program is designed as a comprehensive study of HIV and AIDS. It has been designed to meet the various state initial requirements for mandatory HIV/AIDS education. Specifically, it was designed for the Florida AIDS/HIV education requirement created by Section 455.222 for several healthcare professions.
Purpose and Objectives
This course provides a comprehensive study of the disease process created by the HIV. It’s focus is to teach what you need to know in order to practice prevention and safety measures. At the conclusion of the program the participant will be able to:
- Describe the history of HIV/AIDS and become aware of how it has increased and in what populations.
- Understand how the virus attacks, the incubation period and the modes of transmission.
- Identify universal precautions, infection control measures, and how to teach prevention through safe sex practices and other safe behaviors.
- Discuss the concerns of testing for HIV.
- Recognize signs and symptoms of common opportunistic infections and Karposi’s Sarcoma, and treatments of HIV infection and of complications.
